When there’s a holiday, marketers love to use it as an opportunity to boost sales – especially in e-commerce! This is a great time to promote your products and add a bit of mystery to your messaging. A clever post could move someone from the ‘thinking’ stage to the ‘purchasing’ stage.

Stick to your brand ethos

This isn’t a time to go against everything you’ve built as a brand. Nothing that you do should feel off-brand or be unexpected. Companies like Aldi, who have an amazing social media team, embrace an ‘anything goes’ ethos,  using feel-good posts to spark conversation and make people smile. Halloween is no different for them, and their posts reflect that playful spirit.

If your business usually maintains a specific tone of voice, keep it – but you can relax it slightly (within your brand guidelines) to capture your audience’s attention.

Plan ahead

With Halloween being a strong sales period, it’s smart to plan ahead. Mainly so everyone is onboard with the messaging and nothing comes as a surprise to anyone – especially the business owner. Here are a few ideas you could incorporate:

  • Offer discounts for purchases made within a specific timeframe
  • Run competitions – for example, customers could share photos of your products with their own spooky spin
  • Create a limited Halloween-themed product range (to note, this can be a costly option but may be achievable with just 1 or 2 products)
  • Try a ‘Find the Pumpkin’ game – think ‘Where’s Wally?’, but with pumpkins hidden in your product photos on your website

Your plans could be as simple as adding some Halloween-themed visuals to your posts to refresh your feed for the season.

Doesn’t have to be dark and spooky

Yes, Halloween is traditionally dark and eerie, but you can always add a fun or light-hearted twist. You don’t need to go too spooky, again depends on your business. For example, a children’s clothing company isn’t going to  show products thrown into a cauldron!

Be imaginative, be creative and be YOU. Use the holiday to give your sales a seasonal boost –  always a welcome lift before Christmas.
